Despite its humor, this demonstration will open your eyes and advance your horsemanship education. Demonstrating with a local horse that is fearful of the trailer, Clinton not only teaches the horse to confidently step onto the trailer, but by the end of the demo, he has the horse running to get onto the trailer. In the first part of the series, Clinton earned Ransom’s respect and trust to prepare the once wild mustang for his career under saddle. In this episode, Clinton demonstrates a textbook first ride on the gelding. Unlike traditional colt starting techniques, Clinton’s method relies on the help of an assistant during a horse’s first three rides. The clinician explains the importance of using a helper and his belief that colts should be worked at all three gaits (walk, trot and canter) during the first ride.
